BAUN Localised Prostate Cancer Study Day

Wednesday 9th September 2015

Nottingham Conference Centre

The British Association of Urological Nurses held their BAUN Localised Prostate Cancer Study Day on Wednesday 9th September 2015 at the Nottingham Conference Centre. 

As well as a varied programme there was an exhibition with a wide variety of companies for delegates to visit and hear about new and innovative products to the market. This event not only offered sessions to visit but the refreshment breaks were an ideal opportunity for those to socialise with like-minded colleagues and discuss the issues faced on a daily basis.

Programme Highlights included: Diagnosis of prostate cancer, Active Surveillance, Radiation and androgen deprivation therapy, Radical prostatectomy, HiFu and Cryotherapy, Sexuality, Erectile dysfunction and management, Management of treatment side effects.

BAUN Catheter Management Study Day

The British Association of Urological Nurses held their BAUN Catheter Management Study Day on Wednesday 9th September 2015 at the Nottingham Conference Centre. 

This one-day study day was aimed at anyone caring for patients with urinary catheters including; ward nurses, healthcare support workers, community nurses and anyone interested in CAUTI.

Programme Highlights included: Indications for urinary catheterisation & Contraindications, Complications and trouble shooting, Catheter selection and catheterisation, Alternatives to indwelling urethral catheters, Infection Control, and Penile Cancer.

BAUN Catheter Management Study Day

The British Association of Urological Nurses held their BAUN Catheter Management Study Day on Friday 8th May 2015 at Aberdeen Football Club in Aberdeen.

This one-day study day was aimed at anyone caring for patients with urinary catheters including; ward nurses, healthcare support workers, community nurses and anyone interested in CAUTI.

Programme highlights included: Indicators for urinary catheterisation & contraindications, Catheter selection and catheterisation, Complications and troubleshooting, Alternatives to indwelling urethral catheters, Infection control, and Improving practice.

BAUN Annual Conference & Exhibition 2014

Monday 24th - Tuesday 25th November 2014

SECC, Glasgow

The 2014 annual conference was held at the SECC, Glasgow on Monday 24th and Tuesday 25th November.

The programme once again featured Pre-Conference Workshops on Urodynamics, Flexible Cystoscopy, TRUS and Prostate Biopsy, Radiology for Nurses and Sexual Dysfunction. Other programme highlights included the Eileen O'Hagan Lecture - testicular pain, role of chemo/ radiation in muscle invasive disease, active surveillance a debate on current protocols and certification: the America approach.

Erectile Dysfunction Study Day

This study day was sponsored by Prostate Cancer UK and was the first date of three Erectile Dysfunction study days taking place throughout the country. Dates still to follow are Birmingham on the 3rd July and London on 3rd September 2014.

Benign Prostate Disease Study Day

This event will be run simultaneously with the Renal Cancer study day. Both events will share an exhibition and will be held in the Thistle Hotel Glasgow. Programme highlights will include: LUTS assessment, Management of Acute and Chronic retention & surgical management of BHP and management of prostatectomy incontinence.

Urinary Catheter Management Debate

The Urinary Catheter Management Debate took to the road again in to deliver another 3 events in 3 different locations in December 2013. This event was a joint collaboration between the Infection Prevention Society and the British Association of Urological Nurses and is supported by the Public Health England (Milton Keynes and Liverpool) and Public Health Wales (Cardiff) and took place in:

Liverpool - Thursday 5th December

The conference was aimed at ward nurses, community nurses, healthcare workers and anyone with an interest in reducing Catheter Associated Urinary Tract Infections (CAUTI).

4th November 2013, Introduction to Urology Study Day

Location: Harrogate International Centre, Harrogate

This study day was held on Monday 4th November 2013 in Harrogate. The day was of relevance to junior nurses, care home staff, student nurses and health care support workers that have an interest in urology.

The programme featured sessions on common male urological conditions and their treatment, common female urological conditions and their treatment, catheter complications and how to avoid them, investigations commonly used in patients with urological conditions, some drugs commonly used in urology and their possible side effects and treatment and management of patients with renal, ureteric and bladder calculi.

16th September 2013 General Urology Update Study Day

The Infection Prevention Society (IPS) and British Association of Urological Nurses (BAUN) jointly hosted a series of one day conferences on the following dates:

  • Monday 18th June - Southampton
  • Tuesday 19th June - Bristol         
  • Wednesday 20th June - Manchester

This series of FREE one day conferences focused on issues of practical catheter management, raising awareness of best practice based on the current evidence available. The conference was aimed at ward nurses, community nurses, healthcare workers and anyone with an interest in reducing catheter associated urinary tract infections (CAUTI).
