Benign
Benign Section of BAUN
In recent year nurses working within the Urology field have taken on specialist roles which involve assessment of patients’ urine symptoms, flow, scans, along with performing expanded skills such as digital rectal and testicular examinations. Others have branched into the areas such as; Urodynamic studies and kidney stone disease by setting up nurse led Clinics.
The ward nurses role has also changed, as a result of restructuring of wards and type of urological surgery being undertaken for benign conditions. Community and practice nurses are also starting to include certain areas of benign work into their role. These changes lead BAUN to rethink what we have to offer such nurses working in the BENIGN field.
In early 2011 BAUN launched the BENIGN sub section.
The idea behind the BENIGN section is to offer all nurses working with patients within this field, access to education, support, professional development, up to date guidelines for practice in addition to the opportunity to network with colleagues and work alongside them to help standardise practice.
Benefits of the Benign sub section membership will be;
- Unique educational opportunity
- Chance to work on benign guidelines and up date existing ones
- Work alongside colleagues with same interest
- Network with fellow urological colleagues
- Be a part of and help put together Study days
- Share innovations
- Strengthens the voice of nurses working in the benign area of Urology
